 Generally
this treatment is for the over 40 age group. This is the first
technique that avoids laser altogether in treating lower levels of long
sight.
It uses RF (radiofrequency) technology to reshape the cornea. No tissue
is removed and there are no cuts invlved. It avoids the line of sight,
helping to preserve night vision. Because it supplies most of its
energy to the deeper layers of the cornea, it is more likely to last
than other systems, such as Holmium LTK, which mainly treat the
superficial part of the cornea. This
procedure may also be used to correct Presbyopia (the need for reading
glasses), through creating “blended vision”. Unlike “monovision” where
one eye is treated for near vision and the other for distance
vision—the aim of blended vision is to improve near vision without
compromising binocular distance vision. Because the eyes continue to
change with age, it is likely that patients will need additional vision
correction either enhancements or refractive multifocal lens exchange,
which is permanent. That makes this a more temporary option rather like
plastic surgery . People often prefer the simpler CK for now and plan for
multifocal refractive lens exchange (RLE) several years later.
